When you’re posting on social media to interact with your audience, it can be overwhelming trying to think up new photos to post. And unless you have a professional photographer in your back pocket, you’ve probably resorted to just posting a new “selfie” daily. Here’s 3 reasons why selfies should be banned from your personal brand:
“Selfies” are boring. They all look the same. Let’s be real – how many times can you see someone post a photo of themselves with a tilted face & a sexy smile before you’re bored? So why are you doing this to your audience?! All this does is give them the impression that you’re incredbily self-absorbed. Additionally, your captions should match the photo being used. There’s really no point in posting a photo unless the caption matches it. Help your followers get to know your personal brand by being PERSONAL. Share approachable, story-telling photos. Examples include photos of you reading stories to the kids, snuggling on the couch with your hubby, cooking up a great meal, jogging with your dog, or working on the couch at home (for even more ideas of the stories your photos could tell, check out our Pinterest board). With heartwarming captions accompanying these types of photos, you’ll increase your engagement. The more potential clients begin to know, like, & trust you, the more they’ll buy from you.
Face it – the main reason you’re doing all those “selfies” is because they’re cheap. They don’t cost you a thing to create. However, they also tell your audience that you don’t really care about your image. Like it or not, image is everything. If you hire a professional photographer, it shows that you take your business seriously enough to invest in your image. It also shows that your business is succeeding, because only a business that is flourishing can afford a professional photographer. If you’re just starting out, it makes sense to do a bunch of selfies for awhile. But once your personal brand has started to gain momentum, you need to invest in your image.
“Selfies” tell your audience that you’re an amateur because it shows you have a TON of free time on your hands. If you’re anything like me, you can’t get a great selfie without at least 100 tries. Trying to find the perfect angle, lighting, & pose feels impossible. It’s hard to grab a shot of yourself in the mirror or from the phone held up above your head. One or two selfies on your social media feed isn’t bad. But if that is ALL you have, it signifies that your business isn’t doing great. Someone who’s business is raking in the dough would invest in professional images, not waste a ton of time doing it themselves.
Boring. Cheap. Unprofessional. Are these the words you want associated with your brand? Furthermore, is that the kind of client you want to attract?
If it’s not, schedule a personal branding session today. Your brand is bigger now and you need to show it.
