Boudoir photography is a great way to document an intimate, special moment in someone’s life, such as a marriage or pregnancy. This genre of photography allows you to focus more on the beautiful parts of your body, making it important to find the perfect look for your shot.
If you’ve decided not to use our licensed hair & makeup artist for your boudoir session, be sure that you do your research ahead of time and trust what the professionals have to say about photography preparation and makeup styles. Only trust those with lots of experience in the cosmetology or photography industry. They know what works and what doesn’t.
For example, while you may love that heavy mascara or bronzer you wear on a date night, professionals may discourage heavy makeup. They may encourage you to think of your intended color scheme, location, and lighting before choosing a look or purchasing cosmetic supplies. It is worth asking what they think.
Before purchasing makeup for your photo shoot, try sampling several different brands or artists. Many places also give out free samples to take home. Taking free samples helps businesses too, so don’t be afraid to ask for some. Since it helps businesses too, there should be no issue or embarrassment in asking for a sample.
After collecting a variety of samples, don’t be afraid to experiment at home in front of the mirror with lots of different looks. While some brands or colors work well on some people, they may not work for you—and that’s okay!
Everyone is different. It is easy to look at a model in a magazine and think that, just because she may look good in green eyeshadow, that green eyeshadow is guaranteed to work for you. There is more science to makeup than you think. Eye color, lip shape, cheek bone location, eye shape, and skin type all influence what makes the right ‘look’ for you. Study your features and do your research to make sure your makeup looks just as naturally beautiful as you.
Boudoir shoots are great ways to document intimate moments in life and showcase the beautiful parts of who you are. Pay close attention to professional advice and your own facial features to know what’s best for you and don’t be afraid to do your own experimenting before the big photo shoot day!
OR, if all of this sounds like too much, let our professional hair & makeup artist pamper you instead – our boudoir sessions include hair & makeup.
