It does not matter what time of year it is, beachside boudoir shoots are always sexy. There’s something about the waves and coast, whether sand or rock, that creates tension. That tension can be translated into sexuality.
That is what makes outfit ideas so integral for the perfect shot. It is putting a woman where she does not naturally exist, and the photo should reflect her response to her environment. Beachside shoots provide two primal fight-or-flight themes that can be expressed through outfits.
A blanket is definitely a “flight theme” when it comes to the weather because you are fleeing the ocean cold. Blankets are good for any type of coastal setting. In rocky areas, it adds softness to the setting. On sandy beaches, it complements the soft ground.
And what a way to show some skin! Blankets can be draped in numerous ways to reveal only what you want to show while keeping other areas cozy and hidden.
A cover-up can be an actual swimsuit cover-up or any type of a coat or sweater over beachwear or lingerie. It accentuates poses by making them flirtatious, and you can tease the camera by revealing skin but also covering up.
Topless shots where a person lies on the ground as a cover-up are very common because they are suggestive, but you don’t really show anything. It is also a way to show off that backside! If your backside isn’t your best side, you can cover it up and still be showing the camera a sexually charged image.
Topless shots are definitely “fighting” shots because they show confidence and control. When topless at the beach, even if you are keeping them hidden under your body, you are owning it!
Sun hats are a great prop for beachside shots because they give you something to keep your hands busy while you are being photographed. The wind makes sun hats an unrealistic choice, but choosing it and successfully wearing it shows that you don’t care if it’s windy. You want it, so you are going to have it. There’s sexiness in that.
I know horses are not an outfit, but horses are an incredible addition to beachside boudoir shoots. When people think of romance on the beach, they think of horse riding. To make it boudoir, the subject can wear lingerie or transparent long robes…maybe even a blanket! There’s something about this beautiful animal that brings a boudoir aura to the shot, and it allows the photographer to get some amazing shots.
