When you’re doing a boudoir photography session for the first time you’ll likely have some initial stress about how to position your body. You want to do boudoir poses that make you look long and luscious, but the camera sometimes has a way of turning natural beauty into a distorted mess. The desired body ratios are altered based on poses and camera angles, and even the longest of legs have the potential to become short stumps. That is why a skilled boudoir photographer is essential for a successful shoot. There is only room for sexy on the boudoir set.
Everyone has experienced the evil doings of cameras via their smartphones. They happen every time you accidentally open your camera app in selfie mode. It’s the wrong angle, and I’ve never met a person who thought it showed their best side. In contrast, we all see friends and family looking better than ever on social media because they’ve used tried-and-true poses to make themselves shine. This is the same thing that can be done during a boudoir photography session.
One very popular pose in boudoir photography is to lie on your back with your head slightly hanging off the edge of the bed. It gives the appearance of being almost upside down. However, the head is tilted away from the vertical plane to avoid blood rushing to it. You can cross your legs up into the air (great for showing off fishnets and garter belts) or keep your knees together with your feet on the bed. The advantages of this pose are that it slims the waist while maintaining the natural curve of the hips. As for hand positioning, a light touch of the neck shoots the sexiness of this pose into the stars.
Another way to express intimacy in a photo session while maintaining body length is to pose against a wall. Facing the wall can set a mood of sexual tension. Putting your back to it may symbolize submission or readiness. Honestly, these emotions can be mixed to fit your wants. The wall provides space for you to lengthen your arms and legs in a flattering way.
The last pose I’ll mention for creating that long, luscious look is lying on your stomach. This can be done on the floor, in bed, in a chair, or anywhere that fits the circumstance. The reason lying on your front is so lengthening is that it allows you to arch your back and lengthen your arms, legs, or neck for the pose. It is also slimming because as you stretch out your body, any unwanted weight remains pleasantly hidden beneath you. It also allows you to show a lot of skin without showing your most intimate parts.
One of my favorite things about boudoir photography is that it is for everyone. Boudoir poses allow me to capture and enhance the beauty of every client by using body poses along with other photography techniques. Everyone deserves to feel like they look their best in their boudoir photos. I am able to make this happen with the perfect pose.
