Boudoir photography often pushes the boundaries of what a person may feel comfortable with. That’s good! It is part of the benefit of a boudoir shoot. The empowerment and strength you can feel from breaking boundaries is amazing. You may have questions about boudoir before showing up at the shoot, and that is understandable.
Having a boudoir session often involves opening up to a stranger, and it may mean facing areas of your body that you generally try to keep hidden. More than anything, the stress of having the shoot may cause you to hide from questions that would really make the experience more fun. It is supposed to be fun, but awkwardness and modesty can be a huge barrier to that fun.
Here are two tough questions about boudoir that may help you open up a bit before your shoot:
You never have to get naked in front of strangers, which hopefully goes without saying, but you can get naked for your shoot if you want to. Boudoir photography is not pornography, but it is an expression and celebration of the human body. If you are hesitant to show too much, then don’t. Your photographer wants to find your sensuality, not your indiscretion.
Nudity is not vulgar, and the tasteful display of otherwise unseen body parts is an act of freedom and empowerment. However, that nudity can be a whole lot of a leg or the exposure of the shoulders. You can keep it PG and still be sultry and erotic.
Talk to your photographer. You don’t have to ask whether or not you have to be “in the nude.” Instead, tell your photographer what you have in mind and they will work with you to make sure it is exactly how you want to be portrayed.
The simple answer to this question is, yes. You can have alcohol before and, depending on the photographer, during the shoot. The bigger question is, should I have a few drinks before the shoot? This is not recommended.
Drinking is an ice breaker and it can add comfort and fun to a shoot, and when done responsibly. Excessive drinking is not recommended because it can take you beyond your comfort zone and detract from the beauty of the shoot. Alcohol can cause redness and swelling that takes away from a person’s inner beauty.
It may seem like a no brainer not to drink too much at a shoot, but a serving or two of a favored beverage may lead to relaxation and a better experience in boudoir photography.
The two questions we suggest above are some of the more obvious questions about boudoir you may want to ask before your photo shoot, but they are also some of the most dreaded questions. They are so common that you might feel ignorant or naïve to the extent that you avoid the question.
If you have any other questions before booking your boudoir session book your free phone consultation today. We recommended that you be upfront and get your questions out into the open, so we can focus on the goals for your session.
